JONESTOWN SURVIVOR 2016

JONESTOWN SURVIVOR 2016 When 914 members of Peoples Temple and four visiting Americans died in Guyana, South America on November 18, 1978, Laura Johnston Kohl survived. Trifecta – Three Grand Events Saturday, November 14 was a special day. It was very full, but touched a lot of points. He interviewed me and taped the conversation for over two hours. The setting was an extensive Peoples Temple Collection that Dr. Rob Ray, the SDSU Archivist, has set up. The collection has all types of media productions and other memorabilia from Jonestown survivors and other diverse sources. In ...

JONESTOWN SURVIVOR – A Survivor and More

HOW DOES THE TERM “SURVIVOR” FIT ME? I was interviewed this week by Torrey Bailey from SD City Beat. She asked me how the term “Survivor” fits me. I have traveled through many labels in my life. I began as a zealot. The first twenty years of my life, I searched, experimented, and followed my passions. I made lousy decisions as well as some good ones. But, I stayed optimistic, thinking things would always work out for me. When I moved into Peoples Temple in March of 1970, I was still a zealot. I was willing to be a very ...

JONESTOWN SURVIVOR Interviewed - Program to be aired shortly after November 8, 2015. I was interviewed for "My Inner Fuel" Radio Program, by the Co-Founder of the Positivity Effect Program, Dr. Thomas Recher. As a Peoples Temple survivor, author and educator, I was interviewed by Dr. Thomas Recher. Positivity is essential for moving on past almost insurmountable obstacles we all face in our lives. For me, it was a two-edged sword. It both got me into deep water, and allowed me to survive and even thrive after the tragedy of Jonestown. The show will be aired in November - the ...

JONESTOWN SURVIVOR – Responds to Inquiries

JONESTOWN SURVIVOR responds to an email inquiry: Over the past few days, a person researching a book has contacted me. She mentioned that the other survivors she tried to contact have not responded. Here is what I told her: What made you decide to write about Peoples Temple? Are you including any information about Jonestown? Life for children and parents was completely different in Jonestown for both children and parents - for everyone. Do you know Dr. James Taylor at USF? Just out of curiosity, what are the ethnicities of your primary characters? In terms of contacting survivors, what none of us wants ...
