UNITY I have taken on a new project since I retired from twenty-five years of teaching on June 12, 2014. A psychologist friend and I got a $10,000 grant to gather an Oral History Collection of Peoples Temple and Jonestown survivors and family members. I am a proud member of the Occupy Movement. Why? This vignette tells it all. I have a friend who has spent her life caretaking – AIDS patients, her daughter, many others during her lifetime. We sit at different activist events and I am delighted to share the table/bench/banner with her. Last week, she attended an event in our local park – a green park with swings and kids’ climbing equipment, a railroad museum, and multitudes of homeless men and women. A close friend referred a woman who had suffered through an unbelievably horrific cult experience. The woman is on her own survival track, but is trying to help some others who experienced the same cult. In her group, the daily offenses were beyond our wildest nightmares. She was referred to me so that I could make some suggestions on how to survive it all. Martin Luther King Day Parade – Thank you for being here! As a Jonestown Survivor - I wouldn't be anywhere else!
