JONESTOWN SURVIVOR Answers questions from College Student

A college student who is studying Peoples Temple sent me these questions. Here are my answers to him: Here is my BRIEF response to your questions – it took me a whole book to tell it. What was it like being part of Peoples Temple? What was Jonestown like? How did being a part of Peoples Temple change me as a person? Was being a part of something like Peoples Temple a good or bad thing? What was it like being part of Peoples Temple? I was delighted by the family feel with all races and ages and economic levels – a real melting pot. I had ...

JONESTOWN SURVIVOR – VISUALIZING WHO I AM, THESE DAYS

JONESTOWN SURVIVOR - VISUALIZING WHO I AM, THESE DAYS Laura Johnston Kohl Over the past five years or so, I have tried to have a visual image of the person I am. For most of the five years, I have thought of myself as a black-eyed susan, or a sunflower. To explain the design a bit more – I thought of my physical shape in the middle with petals out in all directions for the different parts of my being. I am a parent – one petal. I am a wife of 33 years – one petal. I am a Quaker – ...

JONESTOWN SURVIVOR Answers a Author’s Questions

An author who hopes to write a realistic fiction book sent me this list of her final questions before finishing up her writing. I am including my answers here. • I'm trying to find more information about day-to-day life in the Ukiah/SF Peoples Temple, especially the experiences of children. To my understanding, children came to the Temple after school for tutoring, swimming lessons, group activities, choir practice, etc., but I can't find much more than surface information. Was this only for Wednesday School, or did most members (and their children) come to the Temple every day for services and other ...
