New Jonestown Panels at Evergreen Cemetery

On Sunday May 29, 2011, about 200 Jonestown survivors, family members and close friends met at Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland, California. Over 120 of us had contributed to lay four engraved panels on the plot of ground where over 400 Peoples Temple members were buried. These were our friends and family who had died in Guyana on November 18, 1978. Although 918 people died that day in Guyana, many are not buried on the site. We wanted the inclusive list of all who died. We had waited a long time. We had a planning session at the 32nd anniversary, last November 18. Johnny Cobb, Jimmy Jones, and Fielding McGehee spearheaded the effort and completed it in record time. We had a wonderful Dedication Ceremony. Many of us felt a great sense of relief that the monument and the names were in place. We felt that we had achieved a final resting place for our loved ones.
