JONESTOWN SURVIVOR – Setting 2014-15 Schedule

I set up my year’s calendar around this time. Universities are now ready to look at their calendars to schedule me in. Here is my information:

Hello again! I am setting up my schedule for the next two semesters. There is always a lot going on so I thought I’d fill you in!
• This November is the 36th anniversary of Jonestown.
• Nine cremated remains of Peoples Temple members were found in an abandoned funeral home in Dover Delaware. Survivors and the Jonestown Institute have managed to find and contact family members of seven, and hope to find the remaining two before November 18.
• The cremains not claimed by family members, and some that have been, will be buried at Evergreen Cemetery with the other 420 buried there, at the November 18 ceremony this year.
• My book JONESTOWN SURVIVOR: An Insider’s Look will be available as an audio book by the anniversary.
• I am working on collecting Oral Histories of Peoples Temple survivors. I have completed five and will have four more done within the next few weeks. I plan to have them widely available once they are transcribed.
• I will be making two presentations at the Communal Studies Association Conference, in the Amana Colonies in Amana, Iowa. The topic is: Form follows Faith: The Influence of Belief on the Architecture and Crafts of American Communal Societies. I will speak about both Peoples Temple and Synanon.
In October, I will present in at least four events in and around Amana, Iowa, and here in San Diego. In November, I will present at University of San Francisco, and other locations. In the spring, I will likely present at the University of Northern Alabama, and at a university in Hawaii. Last year, I spoke at UTennessee-Chattanooga in many venues, many other colleges, conferences, libraries, Quaker events, and participated in numerous interviews for television, radio, internet, and newspapers. I also wrote many articles for the Jonestown report.
You may check my website: www.jonestownsurvivor.com for further updates and my calendar. You may also look at the photos on the www.flickr.com Peoples Temple Photo gallery, or Google my name Laura Johnston Kohl.
I look forward to hearing from you to schedule an event. I do ask for an honorarium that covers my expenses on a trip to your location.
Thank you so much,
Laura Johnston Kohl
