JONESTOWN SURVIVOR on the Move!

This year is the 35th anniversary of the events in Jonestown. I would like to schedule JONESTOWN SURVIVOR: An Insider’s Look book events for the upcoming year.

I have had a busy twelve months! Besides teaching full time, I have traveled around the country to many universities, libraries, and other venues doing presentations. I spoke about history, religion, psychology of groups, sociology, human and civil rights, overcoming trauma, Peoples Temple, and Synanon. In June, I traveled to Mexico City and did several book presentations in both English and Spanish.

I also joined the Board of Directors of the Communal Studies Association, where I present a scholarly paper each October. I appeared on the Ricki Lake Show in May. I continue to write many articles for the Jonestown report, and other publications. I have just finished a column for FLAUNT, a Los Angeles-based magazine. I have joined a group of Peoples Temple survivors to begin an Oral History project, and have already begun recording. At my school, I received the Teacher’s Peace Award at the 14th Annual Community Commemoration of “A Season for Peace and Nonviolence.”

On a more personal note, my family and I visited India over Christmas, and saw the Taj Mahal and the Golden Temple inside and out. We even ventured up to the only open border crossing between India and Pakistan and participated in the India-Pakistan Wagah Border Ceremony.

In October, I’ll speak at universities in York, PA and in San Diego, as well as presenting a paper on “The Transition of Leadership in Peoples Temple,” in New Harmony, PA.

I am interested in scheduling events over the next twelve months. You may contact me through my website – www.jonestownsurvivor.com, via email at lkohl1920@hotmail.com, on LinkedIn, or on twitter.
